BAU Nyale Or Mandalika Festival, Lombok West Nusa Tenggara

Each year, five days after the full moon 20 days 10 months of a traditional Sasak calendar, Sasak people celebrate a traditional Bau Nyala ceremony. This year's dates coincide with 22 to 23 February 2011.

Sasak are the dominant ethnic group living on the island of Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara next from Bali. Bau in Lombok language means "capture" and Nyala is a species of marine worm surfaces, only this time of year.

Therefore, the Bau Nyale ceremony, where large crowds on Nyale along a number of Lombok's most beautiful beaches. This year's event will take place on the beach Kaliantan, village Pemongkong Jerowaru region, East Lombok.

This belief is based on the legend of a princess Mandalika. The legend says that back in the old days, there lived a beautiful princess named Mandalika. Competing to win her, have created a revolution in the island. They can stop the chaos, the princess threw herself into the sea Mandalika. Her people tried to recover her body, but instead found a lot of marine worms, now known as the Nyala. It is believed the reincarnation of a princess Mandalika Nyala. One of the important events of the Sasak people, Bau Nyale festival is a ritual where the tradition meets the stunning scenery enchanting. And, officials and villagers, visitors flock to the beach, all to be part of ancient tradition.
