Pencak silat, a traditional Indonesian martial art has evolved into a global sports event that compete worldwide. Pencak silat has gained recognition worldwide, not just as a traditional martial arts, but as an international sporting event, which competed in many parts of the world.
Of the total 32 countries have confirmed participation, South Africa will become the first country which is scheduled to arrive in Jakarta. South African team will be led by the Head of Silat Association of South Africa Cape Town Branch, Sariat Arifia accompanied by Priharjono and Syahrowi, head and assistant coaches who studied Silat at Al Azhar martial arts school in Jakarta.
425 athletes from 32 countries will compete in this tournament includes 23 matches. The tournament is scheduled to be officially opened by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
Pencak Silat the 14th World Tournament held in Jakarta, which took place in Padepokan Pencak Silat in Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, on December 12 to 17 December 2010.
